Meet Jaime.
It all started when…
I was in elementary school and I had a hard time learning how to read.
I hated school.
and I was afraid everyday in first grade that the teacher would call on me to read out loud. Luckily, I had a mother who was a teacher and teachers who cared about my learning process.
They recognized that I learned and thought differently than other children.
After two years of summer school and individualized reading support I was excelling academically by the 3rd grade. My hand shot up every time the teacher asked someone to read out loud and I was proud at how far I had come. I don’t want any child to feel different, dislike school or stand out amongst their peers.
This personal experience has driven me to get my undergraduate degree from University of Washington in Psychology and my Master’s in Education from the University of Kansas.
